Getting Started
To prepare to take the "21 Things for 21st Century Educators" course through Oakland Schools, please read the information below and then use the link in the "Register for Course" section to complete your registration.
Accessing the Course Materials
Most of the coursework will be found on the website "21 Things for the 21st Century Educator." Click on the "21 Things" logo to the right and you will to go to that website.
To access the virtual session link and the virtual session recordings, click on this link or use the "Virtual Sessions" tab above.
In the "Materials" section below you will be able to download a complete list of all assignments as well as a copy of the 21 Things portfolio worksheet that you will use to submit the screenshots of your work and your reflections on that work.

Course Schedule
The course will run from January 29, 2013 through May 19, 2013. The January 29th kick-off session is a mandatory face-to-face meeting at Oakland Schools from 5:00 PM -7:30 PM. A light dinner will be provided from 4:30 PM - 5:00 PM. All portfolio materials must be submitted by the May 19th ending date. A complete schedule can be downloaded and saved to your computer. You will find this schedule in the "Materials" section below.

University Graduate Credit
Graduate Credit for the course can be received from Central Michigan University (CMU). You can earn 1, 2, 3, or 4 graduate credits. The cost is $300 per credit hour. Registration can be done by phone, mail or online. Payment for graduate credit will go directly to CMU. Registration forms will be available at the January 29th face-to-face meeting. Requirements for SCECHs
SCECHs for this course are pending. We have applied to give 95.5 SCECHs to participants who fulfill all of the requirements.
1. If you did not fill one out at the face-to-face meeting, download and complete the SCECH application form and follow the guidelines established by Oakland Schools and the Michigan Department of Education.
2. Download and complete the OS 21 Things Time Log v7 of your time spent on "21 Things" for the SCECHs. Note: There are two parts to the Time Log. The first part is the Face-to-Face Launch & Adobe Connect Sessions which is for the face-to-face meeting and the webinars. The second part is the Hands-On Activities Log which is for self-paced use of the online tutorials and the completion of the assignments.
3. Download, complete and submit by the scheduled due date (see below) the 21 Things Portfolios for each set of 7 things. The portfolios are Word documents in which you will place your screen shots and reflections for each of the "21 Things." (Note: The portfolio activities and assignments are also found at the bottom of each web page on the main "21 Things" website. A summary of all of the assignments is provided in the Materials section below.)
4. Upon completion of each group of seven portfolio/assignments, email your document(s) to one of the instructors. In the subject line of your email, please put: Your Name & Things #-#.
* Submit Things 1-7 and Capstone Reflection by March 3, 2013
* Submit Things 8-14 and Capstone Reflection by April 14, 2013
* Submit Things 15-21 and Capstone Reflection by May 19, 2013
* All other paperwork (time log, SCECH application, payment) must be submitted by May 23, 2013.
5. Mail your completed OS 21 Things Time Log v7 and a $10.00 check payable to Oakland Schools to:

6. Complete the Google Form Follow-up Survey. (This survey link will be active after May 19, 2013.)
7. The "21 Things" Course Facilitators will read through your final portfolio and time log to confirm that you have completed all SCECHs requirements. They will submit a list of participants who meet the requirements to the SCECH coordinator at Oakland Schools. The plan is to have this submitted by June 5, 2013.
8. The Oakland Schools' SCECH Coordinator will upload the information to the Michigan Department of Education Secure Central Registry (SCR). It will take 1-10 days for the SCECH Coordinator to complete this task.
9. Watch for an email from the SCECH Coordinator via the Secure Central Registry, directing you to logon to the SCR and complete another evaluation. You must do this within 30 days of receiving the email or you will not be awarded your SCECHs.

- You will be required to create an online account in the SCR. It is very important that you use the same email address for your account that you give to Oakland Schools (and any other SB-CEU sponsor) when you registered for the class. (Note: If you are unsure about what email address you used, you may contact Kim Clarke (248-209-2174) and she will look it up for you.)
- SCECHs are automatically awarded and immediately listed on an Unofficial Transcript. The Unofficial Transcript will contain all the required information needed for certificate renewal: name of the offering and date(s), name of the SCECH Sponsor and Coordinator, Program Approval Number, and number of SCECHs awarded. An Official Transcript can be purchased for a small charge.

Survey/Assessments & SCECH Course Evaluation
Pre-Assessment Surveys
Prior to starting to work on a "Thing," participants are required to complete a Pre-Assessment survey of their technology proficiency with the "Thing." Links to the Pre-Assessment surveys are located on the main 21 Things website as step #1 of the directions for each "Thing."
Post-Assessment Surveys
Upon completion of a "Thing," participants are also required to complete a Post-Assessment survey of their proficiency with the "Thing." Links to the Post-Assessment surveys are located at the end of all of the other requirements for completing each particular "Thing."
SCECH Course Evaluation
All participants earning SCECHs will be sent a link to a course evaluation from the Michigan Department of Education via the Secure Central Registry. This evaluation must be completed as the final step in meeting the SCECHs requirements.
End-of-Course Survey
All participants will be asked to complete an end-of-course survey to provide feedback directly to the OS 21 Things instructors. A link to this survey will be sent out shortly after the course ending date.
